VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES at HUMC PICKLEBALL

HELP OUT WITH THE HUMC PICKLEBALL PROGRAM!!
We continue to expand our pickleball offerings so that we can offer more opportunities to our growing HUMC Pickleball community. Note that our pickleball program is staffed by volunteers, so we grow as our volunteer staff grows. If you feel led to volunteer, please contact Susan or Rod (contact info at bottom of email) or talk to one of our Pickleball Staff members. We are grateful to Huntersville UMC for hosting our events and supporting this ministry.

HOUSEKEEPING:

  • Go to HUMCSports.org WEBSITE: Our website has information about all of our pickleball (and other HUMC sports) events.

  • Go to Pickleball Calendar: Our calendar of pickleball events is listed on the HUMC Sports Ministry website!

  • Follow our Facebook page HERE!

  • Take your own photo at our next event and tag us on social media! #humcpickleball

  • How to SIGN UP and REGISTER for OPEN GYM DRILLS

    • Every Friday at noon, these pickleball events for the following week open for registration. Sign-up links are updated on the website for registration.

    • Every Friday morning, we send out a weekly email to remind everyone of the upcoming week's pickleball events.

  • Registration is REQUIRED at ALL of our pickleball events, because demand is high and space is EXTREMELY LIMITED.  All of our events have capped registration numbers so we can provide optimum playing conditions for registrants. Please do not show up without confirmation of registration.

  • DON'T BE A "NO-SHOW" if you are confirmed to attend one of our events.

    • If you need to CANCEL for a confirmed event, please TEXT the event organizer ASAP so we can fill your slot.  The event organizer name and phone number will be on your confirmation email and on the registration information. If necessary, contact Rod or Susan (see bottom of this email for contact information).

    • Be kind to your fellow players. We all know how frustrating it is to play when there isn't enough people!

  • REFUND POLICY: Our system does NOT automatically issue a refund (this is a limitation of the church's software system).

    • IF YOU CANCEL AND NEED A REFUND, PLEASE CONTACT SUSAN LITTLE OR ROD ARTERS DIRECTLY. See contact info at bottom of this email.

    •  Note that we cannot transfer your registration to another week's open gym or hold your money in your "account" because the church's registration software does not have this type of capability.

    • Please consider donating the money to the church in lieu of requesting a refund. Note that HUMC Pickleball is a ministry of the church, which is run completely by volunteers. Additionally, the church does not charge the pickleball program for the use of the gym. Any monies collected through pickleball events is given back to the HUMC to help defray the cost of using the gym (utilities and lost opportunity cost of rental income, which is around $60/hour.)

  • HUMC Pickleball: Texting us at (980) 350-0777 is always an option!

    • Note that this is a HUMC church-wide text number; please enter this # into your phone contacts as “HUMC”.

    • When texting this number, please identify the person you are trying to contact so HUMC knows which person you are trying to reach.

  • Update your profile HERE so we have you on the correct email list for future events. This includes your pickleball skill level.

  • We have a Pickleball Tutor Plus ball machine available for rentals so you can drill!

  • If you don't own a paddle, you can borrow one of ours for the night!

  • PICKLEBALL SKILL LEVELS: In order to keep our offerings consistent, we try to use the following rating system (recognizing it is very subjective) in order to make sure every session is evenly matched.

    • BEGINNERS: up to 2.5

    • LOWER INTERMEDIATE: 3.0-3.4

    • HIGHER INTERMEDIATE: 3.5-3.9

    • ADVANCED: 4.0+ level

    • HUMC does not use DUPR at the current time. HUMC uses the following guides to help determine skills rating: IPTPA & USAPA Guides

    • Do you need to update your skills rating or pickleball profile? Update here

  • Did you grab your copy of “Who just served?”, the hottest new pickleball book written by our very own pickleball “pro”, Rod Arters?  Check it out today!
